Generally, when people come to Bali for the first time they like to prearrange for a place to stay and take advantage of the hotels pick up service from airport to their room. Some people are more spontaneous. They arrive in Indonesia and find a recommended room in their guidebooks, or at the suggestion of family or friends who have come before them.
Whatever your approach finding an accommodation is easy. There are any number of Travel Agent counters at the airport, and they can help you to find a place to stay in the area you want and according to your budget.
Many hotels have high visibility through travel agents back in your home country or on booking websites. But there are so many hotels or guesthouses that are hidden, and often these are better than the big budget accommodations. I know great numbers of small hotels and guesthouses that do business in the traditional manner of old Bali. 
With more than 15 years of hospitality for visitors to Bali, I can arrange for your hotel either in advance or upon arrival. We can discuss a suitable location close to the beach, or near the cultural centers and I will arrange for the best deal.
After finding a place to stay then you can engage a taxi from airport to your hotel. The price of taxi will depend on the location of your hotel. If you like I can meet you at the airport. I am happy to be your private driver to and from your hotel, and around the entire island.
